…Instead of turning felled trees into firewood, Nicole Belanger turns them into  individual works of art. Her company, Nickadoo, is in gallery in the distillery district in Toronto and a workshop in Lac Brome, the Eastern Townships, Quebec.

…If the scores of logs or trees, either taken down by the forces of nature or knocked down by lumber activity were to be salvaged and given a new life, it would take recycling to a whole new level. Well, Nicole Belanger of Nickadoo Design is doing exactly that! Each log is cut into slabs which either become coffee tables or consoles; the bigger stumps are transformed into side tables or tabourets.

…If you are dreaming of owning a furniture piece that will not only take care of your home interior or landscape, but also will take care of the environment, then having a piece or two of Tree Trunk Tables in your home is a perfect option. As its name suggests, the tables are made of tree trunks. But wait, before you get your eyes rolling, the trunks are salvaged from logs taken down either by nature’s revenge or due to logging activities. After salvaging the logs, they are then given a new life and turned into a stylish and useful table.

There´s a lot of wood furniture around these days that´s parading as green: the wood always seems to come from sustainable forests, which can be dubious. I´ve written about some recent products that do a lot to evoke nature but aren´t totally clear on how they protect it. But I´m very impressed with the work of Nicole Belanger, the Quebecer behind Nickadoo Tree Trunk Tables, which are exactly what they sound like…Read full article

If you have a funky, eclectic style like me, you’re always looking for something that’ll light up your space; literally.

And I’m not talking about the gaudy side lamp Aunt Milly gave you for your birthday. No. What I’m talking about — my dorky devotees — is the future of home decor.

Here is my list of the next five gems to hit the market.

I was going to say “these look like something by Hayao Miyazaki, or Diana Wynne Jones”, and then I realised that was because they look like something out of Howl’s Moving Castle (the film), which of course is a Hayao Miyazaki film based on a Diana Wynne Jones book.

Whatever the association, they’re pretty cute.

These tree trunk tables by Nickadoo are a true delight. Home furniture manufactured out of wood is a tale which is almost as old as time. On the other hand, these cool pieces still find a way to seem new and trendy even after all these centuries. Made out of entire sections of trees, they’re crafted by hand from trunks that have been felled by local loggers or fallen trunks to create cool…more at http://homefurnituretoday.com/?s=nickadoo
